The Medtronic Foundation, WiRED, Euroregional Commission and Tuzla Medical School join in the celebration.
On November 20, 2002, WiRED International launched a new Community Heath Information Center (CHIC) in the Tuzla, Bosnia Medical School. The new Center provides the faculty, students and the community with the latest medical information available on CDs and on the Internet.
Governor of Tuzla Canton, Selim Beslagic, and Euro Regional Commission Representative, Katarina Pekanov, cut the ceremonial ribbon to officially open the new Center.

Some 50 people attended the ceremony to mark the occasion. The Governor of Tuzla Canton, Mr. Selim Beslagic, officiated and joined Euroregional Commission representative, Ms. Katarina Pekanov in cutting the ceremonial ribbon. The dedication ceremony included short presentations by Dr. Gary Selnow, WiRED's Executive Director, Dr. Sulejman Tvica, Director of the Medical School, and Mr. Hrvoje Badovinac, Medtronic Corporation's Manager for the Adriatic Region. The Medtronic Foundation is a principal underwriter of this project.

Selnow noted the significant contributions of WiRED's Regional Manager, Ms. Kristina Babic; WiRED's Technical Coordinator, Mr. Tomislav Ramiljak; and Euroregional Commission Representative, Mr. Tihomir Zivic. Babic and Zivic have been working with WiRED for more than five years and were instrumental in establishing the organization's 14 Centers throughout the region in eastern Croatia, Bosnia and soon in Serbia.

The new Center in Tuzla is the second of three planned Centers designed to support a regional health improvement effort initiated by the Euroregional Commission and WiRED.The first Center was installed in the summer of 2002 in Vukovar, Croatia, and the third Center is planned for Vojvodina, Serbia in early 2003. The Centers provide a vital link between the struggling healthcare system in the region and the medical information resources of the Internet and specially designed CD-ROM libraries.

WiRED has developed more than 50 Community Information Centers in disadvantaged communities in the nations of the former Yugoslavia, in Nicaragua, and in Kenya. The objective of the Centers is to bring information resources into struggling communities so that they can research ways to solve local problems themselves.
