WiRED’s Governing Board is a distinguished group of communications and
business professionals who give generously of their time and money to make this work a success.
They include:
SUELLEN CRANO, Ph.D
currently serves as Vice President for Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness at Western University, a graduate university
of medical sciences in Pomona, California. After earning her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration/Student Personnel in 1984 from
Michigan State University, Dr. Crano served in administrative roles at Texas A&M University, The George Washington University, The
University of Arizona, State of Michigan Department of Higher Management Systems and Wyeth Laboratories, Inc.
Not satisfied by underwriting WiRED’s VideoVisit program, which enables families to communicate with their
children undergoing life-saving medical treatment in western countries, Dr. Crano helped coordinate the launch from a children’s
cancer ward in the Hospital of Pisa. Her role as a WiRED director enables her to continue a lifelong passion of helping people rebuild
devastated lives. back to top
RALPH DANIELS
graduated from Pomona College in California with a degree in liberal arts and completed postgraduate work at the University of
California at Berkeley before beginning a lengthy career in broadcasting. Mr. Daniels spent 15 years at CBS in various capacities,
including Vice President and General Manager of WCBS-TV and President of the CBS Owned Television Stations Division. He joined NBC in
1975 and served as Senior Vice President in charge of Broadcast Standards. He is a former board member of the National Association of
Broadcasters Code Authority and the Television Bureau of Advertising. Mr. Daniels served for 23 years as Chairman of the Board of
Trustees at the Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services.
Mr. Daniels strongly supports WiRED’s programming that enables people to
communicate and access information via the Internet as they struggle to rebuild their countries in the aftermath of war.

GUY EGGER
moved to the corporate world after earning a degree in English literature from Rutgers University and serving as a United States Air
Force command pilot. As a Strategic Alliances Executive for IBM, Guy is responsible for forming and directing technology partnerships
with selected industry leaders of Fortune 1000 companies. In addition, he is responsible for profit performance and customer
satisfaction throughout the United States.
Mr. Egger serves as a director because he believes that WiRED uses technology for pure and lasting purposes, which
are to provide people with power to disseminate information, connect with each other, and form communities without borders.

ELIZABETH C. FINE, Ph.D.,
is an Associate Professor at Virginia Tech,where she holds a joint appointment in the Center for
Interdisciplinary Studies and the Department of Communication Studies. She is Director of the Humanities Program within the
Center for Interdisciplinary Studies. She received her Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Texas at Austin, her M.A.
in Rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley, and her B.S. in Speech Communication from the University
of Texas at Austin, and was a Woodrow Wilson Fellow. She authored two books and more than one dozen articles.
Dr. Fine joined the Board of Directors of WiRED International to help extend its demonstrated success in bridging the digital divide and promoting intercultural education and understanding.

RICHARD GILBERT, D.D.
earned two graduate degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary and then served as a writer-producer for the Presbyterian denomination
in the United States. He also founded the School for Continuing Education at Princeton University. Dr Gilbert served as an executive
editor for NBC-TV for 15 years and maintains his passion for communication as a writer and consultant.
As Co-chair of WiRED’s board of directors, Dr. Gilbert was a guiding force during the early days of WiRED’s
efforts to establish Internet Access Centers in the Balkans. He believes that replacing war-ravaged libraries with Internet resources
not only brings children and adults into the vast new world of information, but also builds democracy for people hungry for freedom and
progress.

TATJANA GRGICH
serves as President of the Tatjana Grgich Family Foundation and is dedicated to to projects, programs, and services that assist youth
from strife-torn areas of the world. Based in California’s Sonoma Valley, her foundation supports local and national charitable
organizations which provide educational, medical, and spiritual sustenance to families and individuals.
Ms. Grgich is currently serving as a member of the Board of Regents of the Catholic University of America in
Washington, D.C. and as a benefactor and board member of the Pacem in Terris (Peace on Earth Institute) at LaRoche College in
Pittsburgh, PA.

SAUL HAMOND
majored in accounting at City College of New York and presently still resides there. He is a keen sportsman with particular interest in
sailing, tennis, and skiing, and he also loves the arts--theater, music, and art. He has owned the insurance brokerage company, Hamond
and Company, for 46 years, and has also participated in running other related businesses. He has served as a member of the board of
Cases, a center for alternative sentencing and employment.
Mr. Hamond is supportive of many grass-roots organizations and philanthropic causes, among them the 92nd Street Y,
of which he is a member and whose events and programs he attends regularly. He participates on the Board of WiRED because he believes
it to be a noble and worthwhile venture.

MILLIE HUGHES-FULFORD, Ph.D.
entered college at the age of 16 and earned her BS degree in chemistry and biology from Tarleton State University in Texas. Upon
completing her doctorate at Texas Women's University, Dr. Hughes-Fulford joined the faculty of Southwestern Medical School at the
University of Texas. In 1983, Dr. Hughes-Fulford was selected by NASA to train as an astronaut. She flew as a NASA Scientist-Astronaut
in 1991, conducting experiments aboard Spacelab Life Sciences (SLS 1), the first Spacelab mission dedicated to biomedical studies. The
SLS-1 mission flew over 3.8 million miles, 140 orbits and its crew completed over 18 experiments during a nine day period bringing back
more medical data than any previous NASA flight.
Dr. Hughes-Fulford now serves as a Professor of Molecular Biology at the University of California Medical Center at
San Francisco and Deputy Associate Chief of Staff at the VA Medical Center in San Francisco.

NATASHA LAMERIS MARTIN, F.I.M.L.S.
Natasha Lameris Martin, F.I.M.L.S., is a co-founder of Global Strategies for HIV Prevention, a non-profit organization. She is also
Chief Executive Officer of GRACE (Grassroots Alliance for Community Education), which grew out of a collaboration of three non-profit
organizations. GRACE is an NGO registered in Kenya, and sponsors programs in Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique and Ghana.
Ms. Martin has 20 years of scientific research experience in the areas of genetics, endocrinology, and immunology, as well as extensive
experience in interdisciplinary project management in HIV-related clinical research. Ms. Martin pioneered some of the earliest laboratory
methods that were used for the discovery of HIV/AIDS in infants and children. She has also contributed directly to the education of
physicians, scientists, laboratory personnel, and health care workers in the Caribbean, Africa, and South America.
A native of Barbados, Ms. Martin was trained in immunology in England and the U.S. She has served as a managing consultant to the
Pediatric AIDS Foundation for research project management, and served for 10 years as director of the Pediatric Clinical Research
Center Core Laboratory at the University of California in San Francisco.

ROBERT OHRENSCHALL
brings a wealth of experience in international business and community service. After earning a degree in history from Yale University,
Mr. Ohrenschall founded Soyster & Ohrenschall Inc., International Marketing and Design Consultants. He is Chairman Emeritus of
Addison Design.
Mr. Ohrenschall serves on the boards of The Eisenhower World Affairs Institute, the
International Diplomacy Council, the Ohrenschall Center for Entrepreneurship at San Francisco State University, the Tiburon Belvedere
Rotary Club, and the Romberg Tiburon Environmental Centers.
Mr. Ohrenschall serves as co-chair of WiRED’s board of directors because he believes the Internet to be a gateway
to the future for those who have been disadvantaged through war and economic conditions.

GARY SELNOW, Ph.D.
is a professor of communication in the College of Business at San Francisco State University
and Executive Director of World Internet Resources for Education and
Development. He is the developer of High Definition Research™, a technique that amplifies the role of the respondent in public
opinion research. Selnow airs occasional commentaries on Public Radio International's Marketplace program.
Selnow is the author/coauthor of seven books including Society’s Impact on
Television and High Tech Campaigns. Electronic Whistlestops is his latest book about the use of the Internet in American politics. He
is currently completing a book with Croatian journalist, Stjephan Malovic, on the role of the press in the former Yugoslavia, and he is
writing Through Washington's Back Door, a book about use of the Internet in political communication.
Selnow was twice a Fulbright Scholar, first in Austria and most recently at the
University of Zagreb in Croatia. He has lectured at the London School of Economics, the University of Warsaw, the Free University of
Amsterdam and other universities in Europe. He coordinated a national communication program for a White House task force and served as
a research methodologist for the U.S. Information Agency. He was a reporter for Greater New York Radio and a consultant for NBC
Television and the National Academy of Sciences. Selnow was a pilot and information officer for the U.S. Air Force. He consults for
industry and nonprofit organizations.
Selnow received his bachelors degree in technical writing at Rutgers University and his masters and doctoral degrees
in communication at Michigan State University.

FRANK WRIGHT
has recently retired to the great outdoors. He is an avid hiker and backpacker who hiked the entire Appalachian Trail in 2000. A
graduate of Washington and Lee University (BA) and Syracuse University (MBA), he served for fifteen years as the budget officer for the
US Army's largest command, located in Atlanta. Having worked to finance Army deployments to Bosnia and Kosovo, he is aware of the
destruction and isolation of those countries and their people, and believes that WiRED is integral to educational and redevelopment
opportunities both there and in other countries throughout the world.
Frank is a member of several volunteer organizations in the Atlanta area.
