Kosovo Reprinted from PBS Website Kosovo is a province within the Balkan republic of Serbia. In 1998 a secessionist rebellion erupted in Kosovo that escalated into an international crisis, including a NATO air bombardment of Yugoslavia in 1999.In June, a peace agreement was reached that called for the withdrawal of Serb forces from Kosovo and their replacement by NATO peacekeeping troops.
